Luke Bryan

This morning I thought to turn on the television for some background noise since my Noisemaker is not around yappin'.  I got busy with my baking and then I thought to turn to the CMT channel.  Holy Smucksville, I just return to my baking and who comes on the channel - Luke Bryan.  He is wailing out that song Drunk On You.  I have never seen a video by him, but I was sure glad to have viewed this one.  Oh my, Luke he can move; I fluttered at him and said, Oh Luke.  I should have made a note to Noisemaker to pick the cd Tailgates & Tanlines but I forgot.  Probably just as well as he may have returned home with Abba, god help me.

Let's Go

Join me, let's go dancing.  I got my Dingo boots on...giddy up.

I am truly loving my day.

John Prine - Springfield

Springfield - August 24th, 2012
Thank you Patti Parker for the photo.

Let the party begin!  My Noisemaker has hit the road - I have several days a rolling of music, peace and quiet.  Well peace and quiet from the Noisemaker.  Currently, I am listening to John Prine - Lost Dogs.  That numbers song...Ain't Hurtin' Nobody.
...Perfectly crafted popular hit songs never use the wrong line
You think that waitress could get my order right the first time...

Lost Dogs is one of my favorite John Prine cds.  Yesterday, my brother and I sang a few John Prine tunes ...it was so much fun - the songs all get tossed in and we mix and blend them up - we have our own little studio ~ it is called a telephone.  The telephone studio.

Here we go - Lake Marie.  For Tom Reynolds and BOT (Bev).  Hit it John, I loved it when he brought out that white guitar.
...we were standing, standing by peaceful waters
standing by peaceful waters
whoa wha oh wha oh, whoa wha oh wha oh
whoa wha oh wha oh
peaceful waters, standing by peaceful waters
ah baby we gotta go now...

That's The Way That The World Goes 'Round - John Prine

A most wonderful day, I have had.  My niece gave birth this morning to a daughter, Addison Raine - 8 lbs. 4 oz.  My brother called to give me the news and of course, we got on to Prine.

I did try to call him after Prine with Janis - and my new friend - her husband, Brett - remember, we all attended Prine - Vancouver - May 5th, 2012.  My calls were not answered, my brother does not answered his telephone, I leave messages.

Today he dialed up to me, to relay that once again, he is a Grampa.  He is very proud.  I was so happy for him, I could tell in his voice - he was elated.

Oh my, we chatted - lip flapped until his telephone failed.  We Prined.  We sang together, That's The Way That The World Goes 'Round.  We laughed.  My brother and I seem to have some -not special- ability to blend songs.  We seem to mix songs together, it comes out great - we sang them to each other today.  Then, the leaking faucet.  I tear up very quickly - don't I - Janis.  lol

Tomorrow is my Prine Day.  Noisemaker is off on vacation, I am thankful - I want peace/quiet/Prine/music - anything that strikes up my fancy I will do.  I love days like that - and I love a day when a birth happens - happens in my family - it is special.

Ready To Split

Yikers and Holy Smucksville - this is the biggest log Noisemaker has ever attempted to split.  Split, it did - about 20 fine pieces of wood - to which he has nicely stacked - for the cold, cold winter.  This piece is a wooden heart.

The fall weather will soon be upon us.  I love autumn weather as I do spring, I love the cycle.

5 more days to peace, music, and John Prine!

...In My Life...

As I lay in bed last night listening to the radio, I came across - CBC Radio - Randy Bachmans' Vinyl Tap - this is a good program.  I am glad to receive when I can.  I heard the most beautiful adaption of the Lennon/McCartney ~  In My Life, I actually teared up.  In the background the chords/music were of The Beatles, I do not know how a producer (George Martin?) slammed this together.  On top of the music is Sean Connery speaking the words to ...In My Life..

It was beautiful.

For those who are not are dial up, I would highly recommend a visit to youtube or whatever it is you do there and have a listen to the version of Sean Connery, In My Life.

...all these places have there moments
with lovers and friends I still can recall
some are dead and some are living
in my life I've loved them all...

The Butterfly

Can you see it?
Beautiful, isn't it.

After I took the photo of the sunflowers, I stopped to chat with Lydia.  I did not realize my seasonal neighbors were outside; I thought it was just Lydia and I.  I said to Lydia - you are swaying to the left Lydia...why is that - was Donald nearby?  I started to sing Donald and Lydia written by John Prine.  I hear my neighbor say...does she talk back to you?  I replied, well of course she does, Lydia will talk to anyone.  He laughed.  I went over and lip flapped with him and his family.  On the way home, I saw this beautiful butterfly - brown/yellow and blue polka dots.  Ya gotta love them dots just as ya gotta love John Prine!

Sunflowers

Brown/Orange/Yellow Sunflower - not a great picture, I will take another when the sky is blue.  The sunflower is about 7 feet high, it is one of my favourites.
Yellow Gem (that is not the name, only what I refer to it as) sits just below the sunflower pictured above.  So sweet.

I purchased a packet of sunflower seeds, it said 'assorted' so I had no idea what type I would get.  Some are still in bud stage and I do hope that the frost does not come too soon.  I would like to have them all blossom so the birds could come and have a feast.

Bean Casserole (All Day Cassoulet)

 ~ serves 10

1 1/2 pounds (750 g) Polish Sausage - 1/4 thick slices - 6 mm
2 x 14 oz. (398 ml) cans Pork & Beans
2 x 14 oz. (398 ml) cans Kidney Beans
1 x 14 oz. (398 ml) can Lima Beans, drained
3 cups (750 ml) shredded Cheddar Cheese
1/2 cup (125 ml)  Assorted Bell Peppers (green/red/yellow)
1 Medium Onion, chopped
1 can Tomato Soup
1/4 cup (60 ml) Rogers Syrup (golden, thick syrup)
1/2 tsp (2 ml) Pepper
1/2 tsp (2 ml) Dried Mustard

Combine all ingredients and place in 4L greased casserole.  Cover and bake at 225F (110C) for 8 - 10 hours.  Garnish with shredded cheese.

Notes:  You can also do this in a slow cooker; which is the method I prefer.  You can vary your cans of beans to use - just be certain to have 5 - 14 oz. cans.  You can use wieners instead of sausage.  Freezes excellent.  Enjoy.

This is the recipe I wrote of the other day, I cannot believe I have not posted this previously, but ding, ding, I could not find it; hope you all try it out and enjoy your Bean Casserole as much as Noisemaker and I do!

Prine Count Down Is On!

Thank you for the photo Martin Doherty.
John Prine - Ireland

Oh, isn't this just lovely, lovely John Prine.  How nice would it be to sit in a beer parlor in Ireland and listen to John Prine.

Trust me, come August 30th bright and early, I'll be celebrating John Prine - only ten more days to go!  Noisemaker is off to the ocean shores, I opted for solo mountain time.  Enjoyment, peace, and quiet I shall have.  There will only be my headphones, John Prine, and I.  I will treasure the moments -  well, perhaps hours or days.  I know that when I take the fancy for music, music it shall be! I started to make a list.  John Prine, Bruce Springsteen, oh my if I could snatch on to that Luke Bryan cd, god help the neighborhood.

I have a dvd list and a cd list.  Noisemaker has to write down how I am to work the television dvd/sound system.  I only know where the headphone jack is to go.

Don't get me wrong here, I will miss my Noisemaker but time alone with my music well, it is a special treasure.  There will be lots of seasonal folks around and my fine neighbor down the way to help me out shall I require assisting.

Speaking of my fine neighbor (his name is Gary B.), I took him over some of my Bean Casserole the other day.  Oh geez, he loved it.  Just prior to delivering to Gary B. I called to my seasonal neighbor to come and have some.  He replied, but I do not like beans - I said - well, you have not tried this, take it home and try it.  The next day he comes back and tells me, I like that.  I best check, I think I have the recipe posted here, but if not I will post along shortly.

John Prine - Warms My Heart

One of the forums that I visit on a daily basis, I frequently talk about John Prine.  How nice is this; one of the folks that also frequents the site was visiting her local library.  The day she had visited was the day of a book/cd/dvd sale.  She came upon a few of John Prine's cds and thought of me, she wanted to purchase some for me.  Located in the USA she realized - I would probably have all John Prine's cds, (which I do not - had all the albums) and oh my, the mailing costs to the interior of British Columbia; second mortgage - lol.  She opted for a post, an email.

It warmed my heart to read folks think of me, think of my Prine - yeppers, it is a hugville, Prine hugville.  Prine Smucksville!

Egads!

Holy Smucksville, I was out tending my flower/vegetable pots a little while ago.  Oh my goodness, in one of my flower pots I noticed 'something'.  I did not know what I was looking at, I did not have my magnifiers with me but I knew it was something undesirable to me.  I went to get a stick to poke it.  Noisemaker was sitting on the deck ...wondering...what is she doing?  I got my stick and poke at this thing, oh my (curse word) oath, it moved, it was alive.  I threw my stick down and ran, shaking my hands; saying oh god, oh god.  I headed towards the house, Noisemaker says...what have you found, a bug?  I replied, oh no - it is not a bug, it is brown and griefers I cannot deal with it.  Noisemaker rises from his chair and says he will take a look at it.  We walk down and I take the stick to show him where that foreign ugly object is.  He tells me it is a slug.  I replied, what you are telling me now I have that lunatic of a heathen so called neighbor in my flower pot!  He laughed and got the critter out of there.  I ran in the other direction.  I cannot handle stuffola of that nature.  We had slugs in the lower mainland of British Columbia; good grief they were six inches long, I would run from them too.  I do not like creepy crawlies.

My little flower/vegetable pot garden is coming along.  I will probably run out of time and have to bring all into the house.  Geez, I hope there is no more of those slugs in the pots, I best check the pots out before I have to bring them in.  I will make certain Noisemaker is near by.

The stupice tomatoes are doing very well, they are so full of flavor.  Best tasting tomato I have had in a long time.  My red potatoes will be ready to harvest in about a week or so.  Took up some carrots and green onions the other day.   Not a big crop but just enough to eat a few and freeze a few.  Nothing like making a fall beef stew with homegrown vegetables.  The aroma of fresh, garden grown vegetables is the best perfume I know, I love it.

John Prine

John Prine

One of the best Prine pictures I have seen, I love this picture.  My sincere apologies but I cannot find out who took the photo.  I hunted everywhere to no avail.  Good photo indeed.

Don't you just love the toe-tappin' movement.  I toe tap to John Prine (lots).  I do head noddin' also.  Works like toe tappin', head noddin', John Prinein'. . .you get the picture.

Last time I saw John Prine in Vancouver with my friend, Brett and his wife Naj; I saw them doing toe-tappin'.  That started with Sweet Revenge - that was right after One Red Rose...oh my word, I wept when John sang that song.  I may not have a set list but it is all in my mind and in my treasure chest.

Thank you again to the person for the nice picture of John Prine.
Yes, thank you to K. Fillingim for the photo.

Precious Little Fawns

Not a great picture, but I am glad to have it.  The fawns do not stay long in one place, you have to be quick to snap a photo.  They are so cute, they run and play.  Mom is in the background eating saskatoon berries.  The deer love berries.

I cannot figure out what the orb is doing up at the top of the photo.  Strange things do happen on the mountain side and perhaps it is that way because of all these orbs everywhere.

Beautiful weather we are having and I am so enjoying it.  Our friend, Kevin was over yesterday and took down the last of our pine beetle trees.  He did the three trees in ten minutes.  I am glad to have him as a seasonal neighbor.  Today, Noisemaker is out there cleaning up the trees, stripping the branches - getting everything cut up away from the path so as the deer and come through.

Hope everyone has a beautiful weekend.

John Prine - John Who?

My word, a busy weekend, indeed.  I was able to shine on my Prine t-shirts - it was such fun.  Our community fishing derby was held this weekend, not many fish were hooked up, those fisher persons were not a happy crowd.

My neighbor down the way has recently been told he has cancer, - sad as that is - but I bake.  I can take some baking cheer down his way and that is what I do.  I arrive at his place 'prine wear' is natural.  We chat, we laugh, we do not turn to the subject of cancer - my visit is to be a relief - a cheerful few minutes - a time for - here have some of my baking moments.

He looks at my t-shirt and asked - Who is the John guy - you are always wearing t-shirts of John something.  I laughed, I said - it is John Prine, you have probably never heard of him.

John Who?  John Prine.

Luke Bryan, John Prine and The Noisemaker

Noisemaker was movie watching the other day, he loves to watch movies.  I, on the other hand, cannot sit that long - well, I can - but it has to be a very good movie or a John Prine concert!  teehee.

Noisemaker said something to me about what I thought was numbers.  In movies, we do the roman numeral thingy to get the correct date.  Sometimes, I have to check with google to make sure we are correct.  When Noisemaker asked his question, I told him - well, google it - place your roman numerals in the search bar and viola it should come up - like...then, I wrote on the desk XXXI would mean 31.  Got that.  He looked at me and said what the hell are you talking about...it was at that point I thought - oh my, that word was not numbers...oh - the word he said was movies.  I started to laugh, laugh way out of control.  I sat on the floor, giggling.  Noisemaker was looking at me and shaking his head.  I got back up and between my giggles I said, I thought you were asking about roman numbers not movies....that is why I did the XXXI - 31.  The website he was looking for www.IMDb.com

Good grief, I have been on and off laughing about this incident for three days now.  I hope it all makes some sense to you folks - perhaps it is one of those times - where - you had to have been there.

I have limited hearing in my left ear, I was born that way.  The problem was not attended to until I went to work for the pulp mill and had to get a hearing test.  I was 21.  They recommended a visit to a hearing specialist to which I did.  But you know, I do not know any different, I grew up this way.  The damage is way in my inner ear - far too close to my brain for any operation to happen.  Stop.

But I cannot write anymore, I have to go find Luke Bryan and try to tell him about John Prine.  major giggles ~ in other words, I am porch bound.

The Red Mushrooms

Yesterday while out walking down by the creek, I came upon some red mushrooms.  I have never seen red mushrooms before.  I came back to the house to get the camera and took this photo.  Awhile after my neighbor came over and I was telling him about finding the red mushrooms.  He asked did I touch it, I replied - no.  He then said, he had a huge one in his yard and ran over it with the lawn mower - and what a stink - worst than a skunk.  You never know with mushrooms what to do.  I go on the side, when you don't know - don't touch.

Busy, busy time on the mountain side.  It is our annual fishing derby weekend coming up.  I do not fish because I do not do worms nor do I touch fish.  Just gives me the creepy crawls writing about it.

Beautiful weather we are expecting for our derby days.  It should be a fun time, lots of activities and lots of beer drinking!
