Red Velvet Bundt Cake

Red Velvet Bundt Cake
Surprise, Surprise - a cream cheese filling!

Thanks to my friend, Naj for sending me such a fine cake mix.  Yes, it is a cake mix recipe (Pillsbury) and I must say it is very good.  Unique in appearance and a great surprise awaits when you cut the cake.

I share baked goods with my neighbors.  They (both bachelors) were extremely happy to receive the slices of cake.  The smiles on their faces - said it all.

Enjoy your day!

Happy 1000th

Happy Birthday, Blog!

I was waiting for this day to happen.  I love my blog, truly, I do.  When something strikes up my fancy, I think to myself - this is worth writing about - folks would like it.

I see from the stats, folks from all over the world come and read my blog, I appreciate that very much.  It is a pleasure for me to write about my simple life in rural British Columbia.

Thank you.

The Creek

The creek.  I sing any creek song that suits my fancy when I walk to the creek.  I like to sing Bear Creek sung by John Prine (written by A.P. Carter).  Today, I sang Up On Cripple Creek by (principal song writer - Robbie Robertson); lead vocals Levon Helm.  Levon Helm would have been 73 years of age today - Happy Birthday Levon.

Johnny Jump Up

Johnny Jump Up - cutest little flower. I was out in the garden weeding this morning (the rain has stopped, for the moment).  My word, the worms - geez, they near make me run, they are everywhere.  While I was weeding I also came across a four leafer.  I do hope for big time luck.

Pouring, Pouring, Rain. . .

We are about to drown ~ and so are the animals. Our friend, the squirrel.  She is wet to her bones and we think she is pregnant.

Can you see her, she is perched on the feeder, center screen.  Oh alas, you must also see the pouring rain, orbs.

The worms are everywhere with this rain.  There are millions of them up on the driveway.  I try the best I can to jump over them to get to the roadway.

...it's a half of inch of water and you think you're gonna drown...
that's the way that the world goes 'round. . .

Honey Pecan Breakfast Loaf

Honey Pecan Breakfast Loaf

Wow - a hit for our annual community bake sale.  I made five loaves in total...my seasonal neighbor called me on Thursday asking...are you baking for the bake sale...I replied yes - honey pecan breakfast loaves...can I buy one when we arrive on Thursday night...sure I said.  Yes, they bought one - took it home, ate it and call back to ask if they could purchase the other four!  Holy Smucksville.  Truly, they are excellent for a breakfast treat, I have several loaves when the grandkids arrive here.  There are no leftovers.

Happy May Day Weekend, my Canadian friends.  Bake Sale tomorrow - homemade cherry pies, homemade apple pies, and homemade donuts!  I could not resist the donuts, $3.50 for six - they are delicious.  We baked, we bought!

Eagle Eyes. . .

Eagle Eyes. . .
Viewing ... me

No.  One of the most upsetting sights of nature I have saw - the eagle flew down to the creek/pond and captured a duck.  The duck did not stand a chance.  It was all so sad to me, but that is nature.  I was so upset by viewing, I ran in and told Noisemaker, in a flap - I was.  Nature takes its' course.

On the bright side of life, Lydia is holding up very well.  She has survived great winds and heavy rain.  We have a great time together, I talked to her about Donald the other day...Lydia ... Donald has spaces, strangers, yes - he has dreams about you, but Lydia - I do not think he is going to calm your mind by paying you a visit.  Alas, we hugged.  No Donald, but she accepted my hug and I believe she understands, No Donald.  She dreams well. lol

Happy Mothers' Day

Carnations - one of my favorite flowers.

Major wind storm outside today, my word.  I was out walking and decided I best hustle on back home as I was having some difficulty walking against the wind.  When I came down the driveway, I looked over to Lydia.  Good grief, she had lost her Prine and her hands.  I found both hands, but it took me awhile to locate the Prine.  The Prine suncatcher is now the PR NE suncatcher, it losts the I of Prine.  Lydia and I cackled and then did some more cackling.  I got her hands back on, all was well.  I turned to go into the house and sailing through the wind comes my cow heart.  I put the cow heart in a safe place until the wind cuts back.

I thought I best check my garden containers, see if the all the suncatchers were still in standing order.  They were; they only needed slight altering, to which I tended to.  Well, smucksville a great gust of wind came and those crazy suncatchers got all tangled up with me.  Then, low and behold - out comes Noisemaker.  He sees the suncatchers (he calls them flashers) all wrapped in my hair, my hands are a-wavin', I'm giggling.  He yells over to me, are you okay?  Yes, yes, I replied, but the wind - oh Gary...and Lydia lost her hands, her Prine has no I...he shook his head and said, I won't bother to ask.  I laughed and I'm still cackling.  Some days are just so good for laughing, cackling, and giggling!

Happy Birthday, May 8th.

This has to be the cutest, happiest, and funniest birthday greetings I have viewed in a long, long time.

My friend, Naj posted this to wish our acquaintance, Reeda - a Happy Birthday.

All those socks friends have to make anyone that is having a bad day - SMILE - even if it is not your birthday and your name is not Reeda.

The 8th day of a month is a great day to be born.

She Has Risen

My Dearest Lydia, isn't she a catch!

Lydia is certain Donald will be coming around sometime this summer.

I have to say, looking at Lydia - well, I sometimes just have to stop and giggle.  Sit a spell and then giggle some more.

I was not happy with the building of Lydia's head, but eh, it has not fallen off nor has it blown off in the wind.  I was really hoping to deck her out in the latest, sexiest summer fashions.  We discussed it in detail and Lydia said that she is more comfortable in jeans and a flannel than she would be in the trends of the day.  My word, she is a practical gal, indeed.

Lydia hid her thoughts like a cat
Behind her small eyes sunk deep in her fat
She read romance magazines up in her room
And felt just like Sunday on Saturday afternoon

Scott Nolan

Look what I received in the mail today (not the beer) The Book.  I opened to the Acknowledgments - oh good lord - I thought John Prine your work just goes everywhere!  I look forward to reading it - nothing quite like sitting down and reading a good book.  Nothing quite like sitting down and reading a good book from a fellow who Prines.

Thank you very much Scott Nolan.
