Prine, Springsteen, and Young

Uncut Magazine - November 2005

I was going through the magazine - save me forever - box today and I came across this.  It is such a treasure.  This is the only magazine cover containing Springsteen, Young, and Prine I have ever seen.

The John Prine article - there is a full page photo of John Prine.  I remember taking the magazine to the copy shop in the village.  I copied all Prine and sent it for Tom Reynolds.  Cheers, Beers, and Prine.

Happy 2013!

2012/2013

As the year is drawing to a close, I am taking a moment or two to reflect.

2012 was a good year.  I got to meet my Prine friend, Janis Ferguson and her husband, Brett.  We had a great lip flappin' time and a John Prine concert to which we loved and as always, the faucets in my eyes, opened up.

I got to meet David Jacques, finally.  The Hatch Print was completed on May 5th, 2012.  I was delighted to meet David, truly a gentleman - as is Jason Wilber and John Prine.

I am so very thankful for my Prine friends.  Living as remote as I do, the on line connection is very important for me.

I got to stratch a few names off my Prine Bucket Telephone List this year, I love doing that.  Dial up and all you have in common is Prine - you chat - before you know it - you have several ideas to yap about.  It just flows - like a broken down dam.

I am thankful for my Noisemaker, geez and smucksville I would like to whip that fellow with a flinger.  But eh, and wowsville - we will be together forever - he is kind of 'golden'.  Yeppers, he is in the golden age of life.

57 seems like a good age, on my birthday I was thankful to speak with my brother - we laughed, we Prine - big time.  Always the first laugh is - eh, we are the same age now.  My brother was born January 1955 - I was born December 1955.  It is so special to lip flap with him.

May you and yours find happiness and peace in 2013.  ah, throw in some John Prine, Bruce Springsteen, Neil Young and perhaps some of us will do the Luke!

Happy New Year!

Boxing Day - 2012

One of the best school pictures I have ever seen, it is a keeper to me.

Hope everyone had a good christmas.  We certainly did - so much food - we will be eating leftovers forever - I love leftovers.  But why are they titled up leftovers, why is it not right overs.

Our christmas supper was so good, even my Noisemaker commented - you cook so good!  The gravy I made was outstanding, the bird was juicy - done breast side down, with the George Bird flip/flop.  The dessert/cookie plate - oh my.  I actually forgot I had three dozen melting moments in the freezer.  I am going to save them for the new year.

Oh yes, I spoke with my brother yesterday, we yapped a long time and I loved every moment of it.  We laughed, we Prined, we sang Prine on the telephone, we talked about the great upbringing we had - how much fun it was.

Now on to 2013 and to create a new bucket list.

John Prine ~ Nashville

Thank you for the photo - Richard.

What a nice way to start off the day a photo of John Prine and friends in Nashville (The Station Inn).  Looks like everyone was in a HO HO HO kind of mood.

There has not been to much HO HO HO around here.  Good grief, we lost power on Monday for near 17 hours.  When we lose power all hell breaks loose here.  We do have a generator, thank god.  Noisemaker and I proceeded with the task of setting up the generator; we both have our jobs to do.  Noisemaker went to start it up and the reel cord busted in two.  I thought to myself; what next.  The temperature was below freezing so the food that we had we placed in boxes outside.  Around 4:30 a.m. the power was restored.  I was a much happier camper.  Until the snow started to fly. . .

There is so much snow here, we do not know where to fling it anymore.  I was so tired and spent from shovelling the white stuff yesterday, I just laid down in the driveway and rested.  A vehicle passing by stopped and yelled to me; are you okay?  I sat up and said tell god to turn the heat up and melt the white stuff!  We all laughed.  He proceeded down the road, I proceeded with shovelling.

HO!  HO!  HO!

Prine, Bryan, & Traxler!

There is so much snow here; I am near beyond any level of sanity.  I have shovelled and shovelled - the snow just kept on coming like the hits of Motown in the 60's.

While, I am outside shovelling the white stuff, I sing.  You know, I think the birds actually enjoy my voice - they all gather up around me, flock together on the branches while I am singing.  We tweet, in the fashion of nature.

This morning, I sang The Missing Year - John Prine.  I told John we all have missing years.  I continue with the addition a Luke Bryan song - Drunk On You...

You will have to turn on your imagination to understand this, however, I am quite certain some will get it -

...and what do you want to be when you grow up
jesus, said god...oh my god what have I got myself into...
(John Prine)

...good god allmighty...
(Luke Bryan)

...major giggle, I sing, I dance and twirl with a snow shovel, giggle somemore...and then, stop - think to myself, I need my twirly apron!
(Beverlee Traxler)

It's My Party - Luke Bryan

Thinking of you today, John.  I miss you.

Today I turn 57, imagine that ~ hard to believe.  I mean really I act like I'm on the edge of 12 - giggle, giggle.  Yes, 57 I am way, way past my bust size!

Now on to babble about Luke.  Holy Smucksville.  Luke Bryan that is.  Tailgates & Tanlines puts a big smile on my face; some lines just send me to a major giggle.  Country Girl (Shake It For Me) I first heard at my grandsons' graduation dance.  Well, I could not just sit there, I leaped up and danced with my grand-daughter, it was such fun.  Luke is cool, very cool - he gives Bruce a run for his money when it comes to hunk material.

In turning 57 (it does not happen until 11:59 p.m.), I reflect how I got this far.  I don't think I would have got this far had it not been for the people and animals that surround me.  Some are gone now; but the memories do not fade, they are strong.

As strong as this Luke blasting in my ears....
girl you make my speakers go boom boom
dancin on the tailgate in the full moon
that kind of thing makes a man go mhmm, mhmm
you're looking so good in what's left of those blue jeans
drip of honey on the money maker gotta bee
the best buzz I'm ever gonna find
I'm a little drunk on you and high summertime

Drunk On You - Rodney Clawson/Chris Tompkins/Josh Kear

Now, let's get the party started; come on John, Bruce, Neil join me ;)

Prine/Springsteen/Young & Bryan

I walked up to pick up the mail today - wow - I was overwhelmed with parcels and best birthday/christmas wishes.

My thanks so much to my (Prine) friend, Naj - good grief that woman has dressed me up in dotted pants, an apron that twirls, and to complete the ensemble a dark purple sweater.  Biggest giggle, lol, and hahaha!  That is me, I love it!

As I love on double time, Luke Bryan.  I think the reason I enjoy the music of Luke is because I was was/wanted to be somewhat/ the young girl dancing on the tailgate of a pick up truck- ode to be young.  Yes, I can still get on the back of a pick up truck and dance.  Where is the truck!

The music of John Prine, Bruce Springsteen, and Neil Young have no common ground with Luke Bryan, to most folks - but for me it is a twirling apron, a time to raise my arms, dance, sing and enjoy for a moment (or several), life!

John Prine Drawing

John Prine as drawn by my great nephew, Brayden. Ain't it cool.  Talented young man he is, 14 years old, and loves to draw. B...
