Peter Ames Carlin - Bruce

This looked to be a great read.  I will have to check our local library and read it that way.  There are some great photographs in the book Bruce.  I love the title - Bruce.  It reminds me of when you go to a Springsteen concert; folks yell on out....Bruuuuuuuuuuuce.

Peter Ames Carlin - for further information, please visit his website at:

Tonight Bruce plays in Oakland, California - I actually know someone who is attending the concert, her first Bruce concert.  Oh my word, she is going to be so excited.  I have seen Bruce, two times - The Human Touch Tour and The Rising Tour.  The Rising Tour, the concert was excellent.  Oh my word, I tell you - I get myself in such a flutter, my heart skips a beat.  These new books, Derek Sanderson, Bruce (Peter Ames Carlin), and Neil Young.  hmmm...

Makes me go to wonderin' when will I read...
Blow Up Your TV - John Prine
Souveniers - The Story of John Prine
Johnny, I'm a waitin' (giggle, giggle)

Derek Sanderson - Crossing The Line

Yesterday Noisemaker and I went to town.  Noisemaker had to go to the lumberyard and I started in with the grocery shopping.  I finished up with the shopping, no Noisemaker in sight.  I decided I would go and check out the book aisle.  As I glanced skyward, what book do I see, Derek Sanderson - Crossing The Line.  Oh my word. . .

I look to the right and I see this. . .
I got so excited.  There was no one in the aisle so I was chatting Bruce and oh Derek, be still my heart.

Finally, my Noisemaker arrives.  I tell him, you have to come and see these new books, it is very exciting.  Of course, he has no idea to whom I am making reference to.  He asked me, what - did John Prine write a book?  Oh no, I replied wait until you see.  We arrive at the book section, I reached for Derek and said...Look it is Derek Sanderson.  #16 Boston don't you remember Derek.  He does not remember, he did not follow hockey like I did, back in the day.

I believe Derek was post the original six.  I loved the original six, Detroit, Boston, Toronto, New York, Chicago and Montreal.

When we arrived at the checkout the clerk picked up the book and said, Derek Sanderson.  I responsed, I know, I could not believe it...remember all those fine hockey players...Guy Lafleur, Flying Phil, Yvan.  We chatted about the hockey days of the past, it was a good lip flappin' session.  I truly enjoy it just as I am sure I will the book.  Thanks, Derek

Waging Heavy Peace - Neil Young

I am on Chapter 23 in the bible of Neil Young.  I call it the bible because when you removed the book jacket, the book resembles that of a bible found in any hotel room.

Imagine for a moment if you found the bible Neil Young in your hotel room.

The writings of Neil, I am finding like that of the scattering of bird seed; the chapters are scattered.  It is not formatted in the way one would think a book would be.  It is written by Neil Young and Neil does have a tendency to be somewhat scattered.  I found myself laughing with Neil and his writings; thinking with Neil and his writings; then saying to myself, Oh Neil...

Neil speaks highly of his love for his wife, Pegi, his children, his parents, most of all his friends.  The friends that carry Neil, I believe, to be where he is today - friends that are there or have past.  I found myself thinking Neil was born this little bit of a bud; all these folks have come around him through the years and they brought love and friendship.

Neil, from an early age has experienced health issues.  As he writes; he wonders now if his 'golden' years will ring in the onset of dementia or whatever you want to call it.  I can relate.

The bible of Neil mentioned Bruce Springsteen.  They are friends.  Friends that recently lost one of their best friends.  I was happy to read those words.  I thought, it is 'good' Neil and Bruce - you are different people, but you relate - like true friends would do.

Now you all must be thinking how I am going to get John Prine rolling in with Neil and Bruce - no problem, its 23 skidoo.

Our New Bird Feeder - The Moose

So cute it is!  See the little chickadee - she/he has a seed in its' beak.
I know you folks are laughing.  The birds love it.  We receive a variety of birds, chickadees, flickers, different woodpeckers - they are fun to watch.  Each seems to have their own personality, character and tweet!  I sing to them - they tweet back at me.

Neil Young ~ Waging Heavy Peace

Neil Young - Waging Heavy Peace

I have listened to the music of Neil Young for god knows how many years.  I have been fortunate to see him three times in concert.  My first being in the early 70's in Vancouver, B.C - I went to that concert with my brother.

That brother gave me this for my birthday.

John Prine - Merriam Theater, Philadelphia, PA

Thank You - Scott Nolan for the photo

John Prine - Philadelphia, PA - November 16th

Wow - what Prine excitement Scott and his wife had at the concert on Friday night.  Scott's write up/review - was Prine beaming - I think he saw rays and beams of incredible dreams.  In his review, Scott wrote while John sang Lake Marie, his leg was shaking like Elvis.  From experience, I know when John brings out the big white and sings Leg Marie (giggle, giggle - Lake Marie) ~ the leg shakes and I love it.  All Prine friends/fans do.

A Box Of Beer, A Fountain Of Beer . . .

The other day, Noisemaker bought for me, a box of beer.  Thankful, I was.

My wrists do not function/work to the ability they once did, I struggle.  I struggle just trying to open a box of beer.  For about a year, I just cut the box top on the box of beer and go for it...

Oh my, I got my little slicer out to break down the box of beer and by accident sliced into to two cans of beers.  My word, it was a beer fountain.  At the moment of happening, I stood there and laugh...second moment, eh - I could have a flood of beer here.  I grab towels, yell stop, stop, stop and giggle, giggle, giggle.  Too Funny.  I trust you can all see the picture.

I simply wanted to place four beer in the fridge, I end up with an explosion of beer and then I sit and giggle.

And, I still am.

Enjoy your weekend.

Dumplings

For anyone that has tried to make dumplings- try again.  There are certainly secrets to embrace a rib sticking dumpling.

Shortening - yes.  I did not have any so I use bacon fat - we are not on a diet here.

The recipe states cook uncovered for 10 minutes - cover for 10 minutes - do not lift lid.  DON'T - they will fall to the bottom.  Only drop by tablespoon size - any larger will sink like the Titanic.

Only make dumplings tablespoon size.  Make certain you place the dumpling upon the vegetables or meat that is near boiling point in your soup/stew.  Do not plunge them into liquid - depths unknown.  They burst!

I have tried for years to cook a dumpling like my Mom did - to no avail.  Yesterday, I achieved.  Good grief, I was so very proud of myself.  I remembered my Mom -I might have became her shining dumpling.

I love you Mom - thank you for the teachings.  Much love for you, always.

My Outdoor Rock Hearts

I love them all!  I actually have jars of rock hearts, but these in the photo are the outdoor rock hearts.  The little doves are perched in just below the big quartz rock heart.  My dog figurine is perched in amongst the hearts and upon one heart sits a fish and whistle or perhaps, whistle and fish.

The snow, as you see has melted from the mountain side, we are having a heat wave - it is 55 degrees F outside.  I love it.  A day without snow, is truly a blessing to me, I am not a winter person.

We made it into town and we were able to purchase mega halloween candy at the discount rate.  I got my chiclets, love them!

Sunday, my oldest brother turns 60 - good grief, I am near disbelief.  How can he be that old!  However, to add - 60 is not what 60 once was.  Geez, the brother, kid you not folks - he could pass for 45.  He is in great shape and hopefully, he has beat cancer.

I know soon the flakes will be flying and flying to stay on the side of the mountain.  My rock hearts will depart under a blanket of snow and I will welcome them, with a smile and a John Prine song, in the spring.
