Mary Gauthier

Mary Gauthier

I received an email the other day from a John Prine friend of mine who resides in the UK.  He will be attending the writers workshop put on by Mary Gauthier and special guest writers in Nashville.

How exciting for Chuck!  A trip of a lifetime, indeed.  Not only does he attend the workshop, but also a evening concerto with Mary Gauthier at none other than the Bluebird CafĂ©.  see more - www.bluebirdcafe.com

How special is this - Chuck deserves it!

Christmas Day Has Come And Gone. . .

Hope you and your families all had a very Merry Christmas.  A very Merry Christmas - no Happy Holidays here.

My Noisemaker and I spent a quiet Christmas as we generally do.  A few days before Christmas we had friends come from the north and stay for overnight.  Oh my, my lips were flappin' until near 1:00 a.m. in the morning.  It was great fun, I so enjoyed myself.  I made homemade bread along with a huge batch of chili.  All my homemade baking for dessert!  Delightful, indeed.

For Christmas I cooked, what now seems to be, a very large turkey.  It was good, as were all the trimmings.  Now I will set on in to make homemade turkey soup and turkey stew.  Oh yummers.

As for Christmas, itself.  Well I am not truly a Christmas person - I have no religion.  Well, I do - the religion of me!  For Christmas, I have always enjoyed to bake and give baking treat trays to my neighbors.  I enjoy to purchase small gifts.  We do not spend a fortunate on presents.

For years now, a tradition I have is to make a calendar with all the important dates on it (with stickers).  I love them stickers.  I always did this for my Mom and Dad.  Now that they are only with us in spirit, I have continued the tradition and make a calendar for my brother.

This year I have found myself being in the mode of sad, the mode of hurt.  Generally, I am not one to feel sorry for myself and to this, I am not.  I am sadden by events that have taken place in the month of December.  It saddens me that Noisemaker forgot my birthday and (whooaaa, take a breath here) but he forgot Christmas too.  I busted my butt off baking, decorating the home, and doing a fine Christmas dinner.  To this, the thanks I received was not one present to open, nothing.  My feelings were so very damaged and marred by these events.

Christmas is Christmas.  It is a time to spend with family and friends.

As for Noisemaker - well, trust me.  The mountain side is on edge, it could explode at any moment.  He knows he has done very wrong.  Forgiveness is not something that comes natural to me.  A person does know right from wrong.  If one gives treatment of a uncivilized nature - be certain it will come right back at you.  What goes around comes around.

Now I will plod on and understand that some folks out there are truly not human.  They are unkind.  They have never seen a rock shaped like a heart, a valentine ~ they no not of John Prine.

Yep, the saddle was in the rain - but - eh, it will dry up and life does/will go on.

John Prine ~ Thomas Payne

Each morning after I have my coffee and cigarette out on my perch, I come in and do a crossword puzzle.  I love crossword puzzles, I have done them for years.  Occasionally, I come across:  clue - Common Sense writer.  Of course, the answer is:
Common Sense 1975
John Prine

Yesterday morning when doing the crossword puzzle of the day, I see that for all the years I have been placing PRINE, I have made an error.  Good lord, the correct answer is:

Common Sense 1776
Thomas Payne
b. February 9 1737
d. June 8 1809

ah, ya learn something new everyday . . .

Olio

ah, it was such fun, I so enjoyed myself.  Apologies for picture in picture, but eh - you work with what you are delivered.

~~~~~~~
As for John Prine - well - let us all hope he is on the mend.  I read the lastest update via www.jpshrine.org and John's wife wrote - no telephone calls, no visits - in other words, rest is in order.  I sincerely wish John ~ All The Best!  I hope his family runs outside and catches all my good wishes.  There are a million of them floating on down from the north.
Thinking of you ~ John/Fiona/and family.
Yours Truly
A picture within a picture.
I won a big basket of a prize.  Ladies Auxiliary Christmas Party on the mountain side.  Such fun we all had.
Until next year...
Gloomy Winter Day. . .
A very gloomy day on the mountain side.  Temperatures are not that bad considering the time of the year, snow is falling.  Good grief, according to the forecast it will fall everyday until December 20th.  Oh the joys of living on the side of high elevation.
Another birthday has came and went for me.  I have two more years to wait until I can collect some pension and hopefully it will ring true to me ~ I hope to collect it.  Actually, this was the first birthday I experienced that I did not have a card to open, a present to open, nor a cake to eat.  Honestly, I did feel hurt to begin with; but then I thought good lord, woman your are 58 and alive - go forth, Prine On, and make the most of it!  So on my birthday, I decorated the place I call home in Christmas fashion.  I then sat on the porch and had a beer.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
To the posts I have read, John Prine has had his surgery and is recovering.  I do wish him all the best ~ he has love with his wife Fiona, their children

A Few Days On The Mountain Side

My neighbor down the road from me is healing on up from a recent operation.  I made him up a baking treat tray filled with yummy yummies.  In his care package, I put homemade chicken noodle soup, a crossword book, and the baking treat tray.  I get to take it over for him on Saturday morning when finally he is able to accept company and do some fine lip flappin'.

Some more baking - chocolate fudge cupcakes with white chocolate raspberry frosting and sprinkles.  I made these yesterday for our annual ladies auxiliary Christmas party.  They were a big hit, the ladies loved them.  I had little Santa pick faces that I placed in each cupcake to jazz them up in the spirit of Christmas.

In the spirit of Christmas, here is the prize I won last night at the Christmas party.  A beautiful basket (it looked really nice before I opened it up), filled with tons of stuffola.  Chocolates, two scarves, a butterfly, a polar fleece blanket, cute little stuff for the kitchen - a really nice prize, indeed.  The Christmas party is always great fun for us ladies ~ we eat (lots), we drink (lots) and sing our hearts out.
