Steve Goodman

I am not getting a lot of work done today. Time had to be spent chasing cows and looking after the puppy, Bubba. Throughout the morning one song has been rolling in my head, a song by Steve Goodman - City Of New Orleans. Arlo Guthrie had a big hit with that song; several people released it - Johnny Cash, Sammi Smith.

One song I most enjoy of Steve Goodman's is Yellow Coat. I can just picture a smile from a window box when someone special walks into a room. Oh yes, that dancing song - Arthur Murray patterns, it'll come to me....Would You Like To Learn To Dance. Such a romantic song.

  2. Great to see your post that invokes Steve Goodman's first LP. Goodman often doesn't get his due. You might be interested in my 800-page biography, "Steve Goodman: Facing the Music." The book delves deeply into the genesis and effects of "City of New Orleans," "Yellow Coat," "Would You Like to Learn to Dance?" and other songs on this LP. ("The Dutchman" appeared on his second LP.)

You can find out more at my Internet site (below). Amazingly, the book's first printing sold out in just eight months, all 5,000 copies, and a second printing of 5,000 is available now. The second printing includes hundreds of little updates and additions, including 30 more photos for a total of 575. It won a 2008 IPPY (Independent Publishers Association) silver medal for biography.

To order a second-printing copy, see the "online store" page of my site. Just trying to spread word about the book. Feel free to do the same!

  3. Hi Clay and thank you for posting. Congratulations on the second printing of your book Steve Goodman - Facing the Music and for winning the silver medal. You must be very proud. I think you need a separate post just for you and your book.
