High Country Girl

Hummingbirds, hay meadows, pine trees and deer
The bawling of whitefaces gathering near
Infinite sky at the top of the world
This is the home of a High Country Girl

Winds that can soothe you, or strangle or scream
Nights that surround with the silence of dreams
Whiskies debating with chattering squirrels
Sounds just like home to a High Country Girl

Sunshine that bounces off breeze-ruffled lakes
Thunder that beats at the sky 'til it breaks
Mud deep as snow banks, dust storms that swirl
Round the blue jeans and boots of a High Country Girl

Her body may wander, her heart never will
In moments of quiet she dreams of it still
The beauty and peace of a faraway world
Reach out to the soul of a High Country girl

The last verse I have altered to suit my fancy:

Her body may wander, her heart never will
In moments of Prine she dreams on the hill
The beauty and peace of a faraway world
Reach out to the soul of a High Country Girl

  1. Good job high country Lucy. Hope you and Ricky have storms that go to the north and south, skipping your side of the mountain. We had that good fortune earlier this week.
