My Mom

It is my Mom's birthday tomorrow - November 30th, 1922 she was born. Geez, she was a good mother, a good wife, sister and aunty. My Mom departed the 19th of July, 1999. I miss her very much.

She always called me 'her little angel - with black wings'. I had my own mind, my opinions and I do, still today. Mom and Dad always let me speak, they may not have agreed, but they did let me speak.

When I was in grade nine - my smarts were peddle to the metal, excelleration. I was offered many courses to fill up my day at school. One subject I opted for was woodwork. I raced home and told Mom and Dad, I am going to take woodwork! Yep, I still have the bowl and the pictures of a teak coffee table I made.

I miss you, Mom
I love you,

Truly alarming what the human race does to the planet. Hell, I have seen enough with the pollution of pulp and paper mills in British Columbia. Enough with the tar sands in the province of Alberta.

Steve Holy

Once in awhile I will awake with a song in my head, today it was Steve Holy. Well, at the time I did not know it was Steve Holy. I have a song of his on a disk a friend gave to me. I searched out the lyrics this morning and oh dilly - there is Steve Holy.

The song is I'm Not Breaking.

...its torture baby - I can look but I can't touch
I'm going crazy 'cause I used to have your love
Now he has you and it kills me
I'm still needing you so much

I won't give on you
Though I hurt like I do
My hearts' broke
But don't be mistaken
I'm not breaking

Power Off/Power On

Good grief, what a time we are having with power. Power was out three times yesterday; makes me very frustrated. I contacted the power company and they said it was due to wind - odd we have not had wind on the mountain side; however, there was no point to continue on with the conversation.

When the power goes off, we go into power mode. Should we start the generator or not. Water is always an issue because when the power goes off we do not have water. We always have four huge bottles of water on hand, just in case. Of course, we can always melt snow - which we have done in the past - not fun - we get the bbq out and stock pots - shovel the snow into the pots and put them on the bbq to melt. Oh to live rural is such a delight!

Happy Thanksgiving to all south of the border. Football frenzy happening! We are football frenzy here this weekend, it is our Grey Cup to be held in Calgary, Alberta. I watch football but I do not follow the game. I gaze around and look at those cute little butts!

What A Great Day!

Geez, it must be someone's birthday out there and I am receiving special soaring waves and flutters. What a good day it has been. Noisemakers' appointment went very well, doctor claims he is a picture of health!

While we were sitting in the waiting room for the doctor I spotted this elderly lady accompanied by a steel walker. Good lord, snow everywhere and this poor woman is only trying to get into the doctors' office. I bolted out the door and assisted her. It was slow going, but we chatted and laughed. I got into the office, sat her down and said for her to wait, I will get a nurse to sign you in. I proceeded, all went smoothly. At this point, Noisemaker - is sitting in the background wondering - what will she bounce to next. I went to check on him, sat for a moment and looked over at the elderly lady - she waved to me - come forth. I did - she says to me - you are an angel. I told her - my Mom always said I was one but with black wings. The lady gave a big laugh and said when she was my age, she was one too!

To the hardware store we travel - I met Shelia - my post carrier. She Prines. She recently had two knees replaced but took a moment to inquire how was 'your' John Prine concert. Little did she know she was stuck there for 15 minutes! Ode to Prine.

Off we are to the grocery store, good lord I got so many coupons - I was in coupon heaven! Good bargains, ice cream - pork loin - it is smucksville material.

Now we have to travel up to the post office about 12 miles away. I received a very special parcel from a very good friend of mine.

Ah, the day was so very special Noisemaker and I decided to stop and have a bite to eat. We walked into the diner and there is a friend of ours we have not seen in a year or so. We had such a nice yap session.

Home Noisemaker, Home. I built a strong fire, unloaded the groceries - got the mail (more coupons), and then I took a moment. Sat and was thankful. I am so thankful.

Hope having a birthday today is special like my day was for me - Cheers!Y

Here we are - the time for the sign of Sagittarius. Lots of good folk are born under this sign - I am one of them ;)

My morning did not start off great, I had to shovel snow. Honestly, by the time I reached roadside the aroma from down the country road was far too much for me. There is a strange scent coming from my fine neighbors' abode.

I decided to wash up my hair and once again I have bottles of conditioner and shampoo mixed up. Geez, the last time at the big box store I even took my magnifiers with me so I could read. But - oh no, I see I purchased another huge bottle of shampoo, not conditioner. I should write to the folks that make the product and tell them to change the color of the bottles. . .(oh, but wait - what about the folks that are color blind). Ya can't win; but plod on and do the best you can.

For those special folk out there under the sign of Sagittarius - this is for you!

The Cuckoo Clock Has Died Of Shock

Smucksville, I thought I would dazzle up the blog by re-arranging. I rearranged and my cuckoo died of shock. The windows are still feeling some pain because there has been such gusting winds all week. I swear one day when I went walking I near was taken up by the wind. It took everything I had in me to keep my two feet firmly on the ground. teehee, I figured if I was on the side of busty I could have evened myself out - ah, not to be.

...words about the cuckoo/windows - that is John Prine - My Mexican Home

Oh To Live On Sugar Moutain

When power is not a given, I think of all these songs I should be listening to. One is Sugar Mountain - Neil Young.

Trust me, I am not leaving any balloons. I wish to swing over to Jackson Browne - Rock Me On The Water, next moment Gregg Allman - Midnight Rider.

In the background, I can still hear Neil - where the hell is Bruce?

JJ Cale - Magnolia - Crazy Mama

Ray Parker Junior - The Other Woman

Bruce Springsteen - Prove It All Night - there he is! And, along comes

Lesley Gore - You Don't Own Me

Train - ...did the wind sweep you off you feet -did you finally get the chance to dance along the the light of day

Major Wind Storm - No Power - No Nothing

There are a few things in life that make my blood pressure boil over - one of them is the loss of power on the side of the mountain. We lost power about 3 a.m. this morning - when this happens you swing into action like some bolt of lightening has struck your body. The generator has to get started - you need that to save whatever you have in your deep freezer - your refrigerator. God, help you - if when you are doing this you have to pee - because you have no water. You cannot flush the toilet. Once the generator has come out of darkness you need to have a supply of about five extension cords to get the power of the generator to the deep freeze, the fridge. You have not had a cup of coffee because you have to start up the bbq to boil the water. There are so many curse words - lord if there was a board game of Scrabble for curse words - I would have won - hands down!

The wind was fierce - it has subsided but still raging. Trees were busting everywhere. I was outside at around 4:15 a.m. this morning trying to see something - anything. I heard this huge crackling sound - it was not the snap, crackle, pop sound - it was near breaking my ear drums. First light I went to investigate the properties of the seasonal neighbors...there was a huge spruce tree down, roots and all. Thankfully, no damage done to any structure.

Another note of thanks, the weather was warm in temperature. Good grief to have power go out when it is below zero with snow - well, that constitutes another set of curse words no one wants to hear.
