The Parking Lot. . .

I tell you what happens to me in parking lots truly amazes me.  Today, I was loading into the back of our truck some empty flats.  Naturally, I am singing my little lungs out.  I was not singing John Prine, I was singing House of Love by Amy Grant.

I hear my name being called and looked around...but nothing registered in my mind.  This woman comes up to me and says Bev ... it is Denise.  I could not believe it.  I have not seen this woman in over 20 years.  I asked how did you know it was me - she replies, your singing.  I still remember that you always were singing.

We chatted and exchanged emails, etc., and hopefully we will pick up lost years. As we parted we laughed our fool heads off at...and yes, next time I see you I'll be singing.

I met up with Noisemaker and told him of my event.  He says...oh lord, were you singing that same John Prine song you were 20 years ago.  I started to giggle and said, No - Amy Grant.

Interesting what you meet up with in a parking lot.  Now, off to parking lot #2.

We stopped to have breakfast and as always I leave the restaurant before Noisemaker so I can have a cigarette.  I come outside and I see this elderly fellow bent down at the truck.  I walked over and said can I help you?  He starts cursing at me that the tires on his heap are not as good as what I have on my truck.  Oh my, I said, I know nothing of tires - but eh, if you want to wait, my husband will be along directly.

The fellow lights up a cigarette - he just put one out...and started chatting to me about vehicles, cigarettes, and getting old.  He says he has to go inside and pay the bill (he took his caretaker to breakfast this morning).  I thanked him very much for the conversation.  I told him good health and much happiness to you.

As I turned to make my way to get my Noisemaker, I heard all this ruckus.  A father and son were having words...it escalated into a full blow fisty cuff match. The son decked the father to the pavement.  I hear a loud voice say stop, stop, I am an off duty police office.  She goes over to the altercation area and words, fists are flying.  My first thought was get the hell out of here...you do not know if anyone has a weapon.  Off I go, I must get Noisemaker.

Noisemaker and I meet and I said well, hurry along now - we gotta get back home.  The altercation was still going on...I said, Gary get in the truck...I will explain en route.

I did.  We arrived home safe and sound.

Now, truly, I am wondering in my next parking lot event - am I going to meet the Prine?  Maybe the Boss. . .who knows. . .

Monkshood - one of my favorite flowers.  My Mom grew these, they were beautiful.
My lone red poppy.  I love red poppies.

My Wagon

Recently, I purchased a wagon at a garage sale for $10.00.

A paint job and Lydia is very happy!  It is a brand new wagon.  I love it.  Maybe on Friday I will take it for a walk down the road and see home many people will think as they drive by me...that woman is crazy, she has gone pure to loonsville.  I will keep walking, singing my Prine songs, and laughing in between.

Oh yes, and while painting up the wagon, I came out with a new tremclad dye job.  Lovely, isn't it - hahaha!

John Prine - Vancouver, British Columbia

An Open Letter to John Prine

Dear John - I hope you and yours are in good health and spirits.  With your eternal fan base to which I am one, I do wish to make a request.

Granted, I understand you could never make it to the mountain side to where I live - enjoy fishing and my fine home cooking - lol.  But geez, could you get to Vancouver in 2016?

I PAW (Prine at Will) and recently I played your music/songs for our new seasonal neighbor folks who reside in a suburb of Vancouver.  I loaned on up to Pyro (that is not his name, but a nickname I gave to him), some cds of yours.  He knew of you and enjoyed the cds.  Upon our next visit Pyro asked me ...does John come to Vancouver...I replied - oh yes and he is due in 2016.  Generally, John you do come to Vancouver every four years.

Pyro says to me he and his partner, Wendy would come to Vancouver - Bev - could you meet us there?  Was there ever any doubt!

There is nothing Prine finer than going to a Prine concert with who folks who Prine.

Now I will sit a spell and I will not fall off my perch.  But eh, Johnny - we will see you in 2016.  I'll bake!

Thanks
Truly Prineing

Ben/John Prine and I

From October 2009.  It was such a fun time, I am remembering it today.

...In August 2005 I attended a John Prine concert in Vancouver, British Columbia.  As I strolled outside at intermission I noticed a gentleman standing among the Prine folk.  I did not know the man, but later that evening I saw him again, standing outside the venue after the show, waiting for John Prine.

This was the concert where that fine gentleman strolled me on in to meet John Prine.  Holy Smucksville!

Two months later, I was walking out on the dirt road on the mountain side and noticed a van...these folks looked lost.  I walked on up to the van and asked if they required some assistance.  There was an elderly couple and what looked to be their son.  We chatted and I asked if they would like to come on down and see the creek.  The father replied sure.  When we got to our home, the Mom said, she would stayed up by our home with Noisemaker.  The Dad, the son, and I walked to the creek.

When we got to the creek, the Dad said - this is Paradise.  I said just like the song Paradise written by one of my favorite musicians.  The son look at me and said, John Prine...you are the lady in the black vest, I remember you.

In 2009 I am back in Vancouver to see John Prine ...again.  This time with Charlene.  After the show we went to the back alley to wait for John Prine.  Who is out there but, Ben.  I yelled on over - it was a Prine moment, it was golden.

I Have Me A Cowboy. . .

I have me a cowboy now. . .

My seasonal neighbor whipped this up for me.  It is made out of horseshoes and welded together.  It also holds a wine bottle

...when I was a young girl, well I had me a cowboy
he weren't much to look at just a free rambling man
but that was long time and no matter how I try
the years just flow by like a broken down dam
